What are the criteria that DLC would use to 'qualify' a school/organization as a possible provider of ADS?

 

Regarding criteria for acceptance of an electronic resource to replace a brittle book.

1.) Quality of Page Images

  • 300 dpi minimum
  • Bit-depth & color-space appropriate to the resource
  • Pages properly ordered and oriented, with no pages missing, no reduction relative original dimensions, and all text legible
  • If the only assessable version is a PDF, compliance with the above shall be based on reverse engineering of the document
  • Alternately, if a text-only version is acceptable, the digital version should have 99.95% accurate text, reflecting original paragraph structure and pagination, and either UTF-8 or UNICODE text encoding

2.) Quality of Metadata

  • Standard MARC-21 or MODS bibliographic record, with standard encoding  (minimum)
3.) Digital Archiving
  • Home institution can certify existence of archived metadata and uncompressed TIFF v.6 (or current standard version) or JP2 (JPEG2000 part 1 - base standard) page image masters, stored redundantly, with published maintenance and migration strategies.
  • Home institution can certify existence of standard fully encoded METS or other file(s) detailing structural, technical, legal, and administrative data
  • Evidence of the above includes published documentation

  

What are the criteria that Cataloging would use to 'qualify' a school/organization as a possible provider of ADS?

 

Given the budget climate, Cataloging would want schools that have a high level of cataloging quality; ARL, in NACO, CONSER, other national level cataloging background.

 

In a perfect world, we could do original if needed, but....
