  • Cataloging fields for putting brittle notes in catalog record, adding notes to 583 field, do we want to add cataloger name to the field? Probably just the name of the selector and the reason.
  • Sample record for Football Days discussed, link text will be: "http://books.google.com/books?id=pO5CAAAAIAAJ Title from Google Books. Details page with link to full item."
  • Sample record: http://uf.catalog.fcla.edu/uf.jsp?Ntt=UF000607992&Ntk=Number&Nty=1&N=20&I=0&V=D with subfields:

    583    |a Digital replacement |c 20080129 |h Wisnieski

  • Other sample is: "A History of the Presidency": http://uf.catalog.fcla.edu/uf.jsp?Ntt=UF000862593&Ntk=Number&Nty=1&N=20&I=0&V=D

    583    |x Digital replacement vol. 1 20080201 P. Malanchuk

  • Adding the link was approved by cataloging, need to confirm approval of notes but that should be fine since notes are always good.
  • For paper or digital first, during this tough financial times, we'll add all links to the catalog when available and then try to buy print when we can. John Van Hook is also doing the online replacement search and using Google docs to get records to Preservation and Cataloging.
  • Close emails from Delonda
  • SITUATION 1: If the digital title is close enough to suffice as a replacement (in terms of intellectual content or other criteria), please let me know both that the digital version will suffice and how it matches (intellectual content and/or other reasons).

If you approve this version, Cataloging and Metadata staff will add the MARC record for the digital title into Aleph and add the link out to the online source. They will note in Aleph that the title is at another digital repository and is not a UF produced digital object.  At the end of the process, we will send brittle book itself to ALF in a protective sleeve for preservation purposes.

SITUATION 2: If the digital title we found is not a close enough match, please let me know. Depending on resources, we will either scan it ourselves or look for it again at a later time. Of course, if you need to come by and review the physical title, please drop into Preservation at any time.

    Check workflows and approve

Reorg and other changes will impact the "Then what" green boxes.

How often should Delonda search? Cathy, maybe once a year? Laurie, maybe every 2 weeks for stuff out of copyright? Somewhere in between?

Books only go to ALF once done with (we have a print me button or online or both)?

In charge, our materials should be section 108 compliant, but that isn't law yet, so we do need a plan for it. We do need a section on copyright, with a clause "Once Section 108 becomes law, these guidelines will be revised accordingly."

The documentation for Brittle Books may be in LibGuides, what is needed? Copyright tab for LibGuides will be done by Nancy. Other tabs?

Clarification on reasonable replacement search-- can we print me now even if another reasonable replacement is available.

When is it appropriate to scan?

Based on selector priority? Yes (part 1)

Part 2, is priority within that pile is based on circulation within that pile and then integrated within other priorities for the libraries for digitization.

Other options, volunteer time, selector interns, funding?
